Old or New School.

The young people of this day have many things especially technology at their disposal that makes them ‘cool’. Now, think about this; what do you think the older folks called cool during their time? We are talking about the times when they had no computer, internets, i-pods or even mobile phones. Boring? Well if that is what you think then you are definitely entitled to your opinion. When parents talk about the fun they had while growing up, their children can’t help to come to terms with older one’s definition of fun. I mean, what is interesting about a life without internet and phones? It is true that the digitals kids have gadgets like Polti 950 that has made life easier for them but the older generation also believe that the good things also has it disadvantages.

While people had to write letters and wait for several days to get a reply it is no longer so.Now you can make a call with a mobile and if you are compelled to write, an electronic mail can be sent. I asked my mum about this topic and her response was worth thinking about. She opined that what the young generation have to their advantage also has many disadvantages. I believe most people who grew up then will also share this point of view. For my mum, she actually preferred living then and she would not change it for anything if she was given the opportunity. She said the internet especially has been abused and it encourages people to live in isolation which often allows depression to set in. As for me, the disadvantages not withstanding I prefer to live in the world where I can keep up with almost everything with the click of a button.

The Return of the Thatcher Years.

The Return of the Thatcher Years.

Have you ever noticed how things will so often go full circle?

Back in the 1980s when I was a teenager (yes, I really am that old!) there was a horrible Conservative government in power who did not appear to care one iota about school-leavers. This was epitomised with their Y.T.S (Young Tory Slaves) idea and 90% of teenagers were left seething with resentment.

Well, it looks very much as if those same depressing days have returned! Except that this time around, even more areas of teenage life are being stifled; young people now have pedantic levels of political correctness, ridiculous EU regulations and overly stringent new benefits guidelines to contend with on a daily basis!!! Now, everything is being policed; the types of jokes we tell, the moulded plugs on toasters and the length of time we take to find employment before having to worry about our dole money being stopped.

But there is a small glimmer of hope for this generation of teenagers… They have an amazing world of technology to escape into! When the real world becomes too painful and tedious there are some awesome video games in which to immerse yourself. And no matter how bleak employment prospects may become, there are countless training opportunities to be found on the World Wide Web.

Back in my hey-day, we were not lucky enough to have such wonderful diversions! It may be pretty grim growing-up in the shadow of Cameron, but at least you can plug-in your PS3 and forget all about him for a while.

Besides, maybe we will even see a new generation of (proper) Punk Rock to counteract this horrid Tory tide!!!

Are Teens Too Clever

Are Teens Too Clever

If you watched the junior series of The Apprentice, you’ll know that children these days are getting clever, fast. On that show alone, half the apprentices had already been involved in business, and the other half had already done some major deals…and this is at an age when I can remember hanging out at friends houses playing violent video games and thinking I was doing too bad. I blame it on the technology. Back in my day, technology wouldn’t let me access one third of the information that children today have available to them wherever they go, using their iphones.

I say “are teens too clever” because a recent alarming news story – which is set to become a film, I have been told – told of one teen who had learnt how to fly planes from instructional manuals. Not only that but he’d learnt complex things from the internet, all of which combined had enabled him to travel all over the world on one massive long joy-ride. Would he have been able to do this without the internet? It’s highly unlikely. He probably would have done quite well without it, but as everyone knows, the newest technological information is mainly only available online (I even saw some official custom signs on there which had been used by the FBI at their headquarters: handy for a few things, I can imagine).

So you have to ask yourself: is having access to all this a good or a bad thing? Could it be that actually, instead of educating our young, all we are doing is training them up to become things they shouldn’t be able to be?

I don’t think so. After all, anyone, if they really put their mind to it, could hunt out the relevant information needed to fly an aircraft. The fact is…only the bravest of teens would be able to do it. Maybe we should be giving people like that a medal instead of a stay in a juvenile detention centre?

Trublemaker Jimmy

Trublemaker Jimmy

When I was at school, there was one particular lad who was left-handed. This was back when left-handed people were looked down upon for all the time-wasting they caused by not being right-handed. In the hearts and minds of the school, the extra effort it took to get equipment suitable for left-handed Jimmy just wasn’t worth the hassle. They were half right in a way: Jimmy was terrible at nearly everything he attempted, even with specialist left-handed equipment that cost an arm and an actual leg.

This came to a head one day in Art class. Jimmy had gone on strike from cutting out cops and robbers and was demanding very expensive left handed scissors which had to be ordered from his special “disability” catalogue. In the end they send him home to his parents, citing Jimmy a troublemaker. Which he was of course. Yes he was left-handed but my goodness, he was a pain in the backside some times!

Now, schools look at all this very differently. What I’d give to be a pupil now! According to a few articles I read, every school child now has access to a computer more or less whenever he or she wants. Add to this the advances in technology (as well as the myriad different things that you are now eligible to learn if you are lucky enough to be a youth) and it isn’t even a bad thing to be a left-handed person at school any more. In fact, from what I hear, the lefties are treated with as much respect as anyone, in some cases more. I bet Jimmy is very jealous; when he has time to think about that, of course. I’m sure even as an adult his Driving experiences would be dangerous. Last thing I heard he’d got thrown in prison, and not a specially designed one built for left-handed people either.

Latest Eyeglass Styles 2011

Latest Eyeglass Styles 2011

Fashion is one key element in 2011 especially in terms of color. Sunglasses have not been spared. Shades that are bright red and orange are the most trending in as per now. Some even go to an extent of wearing blue or yellow shades in the name of being cool, despite them being too loud for the eyes. Not many can pull this off. Preferably, one may use some subtle colors such as grey, black or even light brown. They tend to help the eye relax and absorb dangerous rays. On top of this, they never get out of fashion.

Some get confused when choosing between plastic and glass lenses. Knowledge is power. Therefore, it is advisable to know the details relating to each of them in order to come up with the best choice. For starters, plastic lenses are very light unlike their glass counterparts. They also do not pose any kind of strain to the eyes. Of late, some of them are coated with a scratch-resistant layer. On the other hand, the glass type lenses are complete resistors of UV rays and scratches. Generally, they are more durable.

Assuming that you choose glass lenses, there are certain factors you need to consider in order to choose the most appropriate glass lens. First and foremost, they should be trendy and the color must blend with whatever you are wearing. On top of this, they should be 100% sun proof. Lastly, they should be a perfect fit.

In recent times, a number of sunglasses have entered the market each with its own unique color, shape, material and even size. Some even serve different purposes. This wide range makes it difficult for one to choose a sunglass to buy. All in all, glasses with thick frame are always trendy as well as the aviators. The most trending glasses as per now are those with large frames and lenses but classy designs with white frames. Ray-ban’s “Wayfarers” are the urban classics that are doing well today. Your choice of sunglasses should perfectly fit your facial structure. A pair of misfitting glasses might make you look bad. The most trending shades that have been a huge success in the glass market are the flowing style glass. They are dark on the top but fade as the color goes down the frame. The only wrong thing with them is the fact that they are eye-straining. Alternatively, look for one with very unique frames. You’ll definitely stand out like lladro figurines.

The Young EDL

The Young EDL

Recently, it can be easily observed how many young people are joining the English Defense League – the establishment aimed to fight back the Islamic extremism and to encourage the well being of the British people. This trend, rejected to be racist but said to be patriotic, is gathering significant force among the youth and, frankly speaking, is one of the options for the ultimate preservation of the British Culture.
Why is this occurring? It is quite obvious that the people in the UK have long been complying with a growing immigration rate and the allowance of different ethnicity in the country. Particular problem are the individuals unable to adapt to the British standard – this is the United Kingdom and this is what people should bear in mind. They live in a country already established and well maintained during the centuries. However, many immigrants come to the UK driven by anything but moderation including Islamic Extremists. They are unable to adapt to the British culture and thus cultural erosion and incapability of integration arise.
This is the reason why thousands of young people now relate culture to British preservation. From those interested in the Cosmetic Surgery Prices, to those working in banking, the youth across the state is strongly forming a patriotic mentality that is necessary for the British people if they want to finally get rid of extremists'danger. The process is slow having in mind the immigrants in the UK, and the people are slowly forming these qualities but the fact that the young people are joining is a driving and a motivating factor. They are not racist, they are not religiously prejudiced, they welcome those who can establish themselves as British no matter they origin, what they want and what they are fighting for is the preservation of the British roots, the power of a country that once spread among the whole world and whose contribution to the world would never be estimated.

Here Is The Future

People say the youth of today are the problem, but you could look at it another way: such as, where would we be without them? Take my next example as proof: we’d be in a mess when it comes to progressive technology if we never let children run amok with their imaginations.

As we all know, it isn’t always the most amazing scientists and philosophers that come up with the best ideas. Sometimes it’s just people who are bored and enjoy making things. Sometimes, even the quiet ones turn out to be something really quite remarkable.

Robert Nav is a prime example of how bright the youth of today is burning. At only fourteen years of age he has designed an app-game that has now been downloaded two million times. Read the story here and see for yourself just how cool it is! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1348293/Robert-Nay-14-video-game-iPhone-app-Bubble-Boy-downloaded-2m-times.html

But should we really be surprised? Maybe. But then again, with teenagers being the ones who use this stuff the most, maybe we should expect greatness from them. In fact, part of me wonders why we are teaching these boys and girls about religion when they could be being propelled onto the ladder of a better technological career. After all, if fourteen year olds are outshining the experts on their own, what could they do when given access to the very latest technology and allowed to take it in the direction they see fit?

There is no doubt that the future of the world lies in the hands of adults: children will never become bosses of Medical skin care corporations, or have the maturity to run government office. But surely that’s missing the point: we should be guiding them, after all, soon, their future will become the present and us adults will be left behind wondering what happened.

The Young Will Lead The Way

After The Apprentice came…Whatever it was called, but you probably know what I mean: that show where a gang of schoolboys and schoolgirls, some of the most business-gifted in the country, were given the chance of a grand prize and help from Sir Alan Sugar himself in realising their business potential. I was sceptical of this at first, as it sounded like a total gimmick to re-invent The Apprentice and attract a wider audience, but I stuck with it. I was glad I did, because as it turned out, it was better than the original show by some way; mainly because the young adults weren’t mouthy, full of themselves and completely deluded about their own abilities. This made watching them a pleasure. The best part was, at the end I didn’t even hate any of them! Now that I had not been expecting.

Back in my day – how old do I sound, exactly? – I hated people who said “back in my day”, and anyone who was much older than me. This was only for a brief period while my body changed and my mind developed, and what I would have done to be on The Apprentice junior or whatever it was called: I’d have swum naked in front of the whole school, or even, when pushed, risked catching the rugby ball as it was being thrown in my general direction. I have no doubt that I and many others would have benefited from a show such as this. But what I do think is that if we had have got on the show, we probably wouldn’t have been as well behaved as the ones on the TV a while aho.

Honestly, that impressed me. Back when I was fifteen or sixteen, just the notion of having to speak out loud in front of females was terrifying, but on TV, these kids had to do more than that: they had to actually work with one another. I say well done to them, especially the lad who won, because as far as I’m concerned he really did deserve it.

Not just for tourists

Not just for tourists

Not just for tourists

Living in London we’re really spoilt for choice when it comes to cultural events, cool bars and the best live music venues in the whole country. Yet me and most of my friends usually stay well away from all the “tourist” areas of town, ignoring some of the best attractions that our city has to offer.

This was brought home to me the other day when a friend was visiting London for the first time and asked what she should see. I found myself listing restaurants, pubs and kooky clothes and record shops. She looked a little disappointed and asked “But what about the museums?”

It hadn’t even crossed my mind to suggest going to an actual tourist attraction with a tourist! So, we had a day doing all the cheesy stuff that visitors do and I absolutely loved it. We needed to buy some portable self storage units for all the tacky souvenirs she bought – and we even went up in the London Eye, something I’d never done before.

Us Londoners have a wealth of wonderful places right on our doorstep that we often ignore or at best duck inside to shelter from the rain. I hadn’t been to the National Gallery since I was at school and had forgotten how many of the great European works of art are right under our noses.

We also went to the Tate Modern (luckily before everyone was stopped from wandering about on the porcelain sunflower seeds) and even spent an hour in the London Dungeon, which I had sworn I would never set foot inside. Mind you, my enjoyment of that particular attraction was probably helped by the bottle of wine we shared at lunch and the fact that my friend got hauled out of the crowd by one of the actors!

The Desire For Education

The Desire For Education

How would economy and politics affect the education of young people in the UK? This is the question that has been bothering young people and their parents these days after the government and the Parliament passed the new legislation increasing the tuition fees in the Kingdom. The consequences, according to parents and young people, would be reduced accessibility to education and decrease in the quality of specialists in the UK.
Currently, the UK is among the countries with the highest number of young graduates. The young students have different studying opportunities for higher education and they have the unique possibility to take governmental support in order to allow themselves to realise their career prospectives and to be employable on the jobs market. The increased tuition fees would be a problem since many would feel restricted to pay more or to repay much higher tuition fees.
This is how the young people are once affected this time from something different than culture and technology – the politics imposed by the ruling government and the economy policies that the Conservatives are conducting might incur some serious consequences for the young people in the country. The problem is that with the current political decisions and the shrink of the economy would lead to less people being granted access to education. Thus the UK would be able to use its potential graduates and the number of specialists and career seekers would be significantly reduced. This would logically lead to demand in professionals from abroad and to paying more for social services to UK residents that cannot afford education – the government would not be able to cope with the immigration as the country would be requiring more specialized labour and the young people would be deprived from proper education which would affect seriously every job market – even the locum doctor jobs.
